The Role of Phonics in Early Literacy
Reading First was a Bush initiative that focused on phonics, vocabulary and fluency. Rebecca Silverman is now an associate professor of early literacy at the Stanford Graduate School of Education. She says there's a common thread between her experience in New Orleans to what's happening in California right now.
