What Happened Before the Big Bang?

The Big Bang was regarded as a singularity. A regional place of infinite density where space time becomes infinitely curved and therefore there's a sort of boundary or edge of space time. And it was simply impossible to talk about what came before the Big Bang. Stephen Hawking once remarked that it was like asking what lies north of the north pole. The answer is nothing not because there's some mysterious land of nothing there but because there ain't no such place.
