The Liberal Mentality's Failure in Practice in Science and Technology
Liberalism's main revolutions was not in the narrowly political realm, but in its disassociation of nature from culture. The fundamental premise of liberalism is that the natural condition of man is defined above all by the absence of culture. Jean-Jacques Rousseau conceived the state of nature as a place of relative peace and stability. While today we can still speak of differences of nature and nurture, even the possibility of these two would have been incomprehensible to pre-liberal humanity.
