Sally Kohn: I have English literature majors who have never thought that their skills in close reading text can be applied to reading the Bible. She says she has them read a chapter from John Steinbeck and just kind of analyze it as a piece of literature. "Who are the characters? What's the story flow? What's, you know, like it just shuts down," they say when confronted with scripture. Skelton: Maybe we're seeing a shift where we all value low orality while this generation actually values high orality.
