The Difference Between Audience Building and Finding Clients

Many small business owners and independent workers try to build audiences on social media rather than taking actions that would actually help them connect with clients. For the audience building attention business, what they sell isn't just secondary to producing an audience, it's a shadow of it. While plenty of influencers do sell the audience power they've produced to a third party, there is a significant segment of creators who realize they'll get a better deal essentially selling that audience back to themselves. Instead of letting another brand use that audience power, the creator uses the audience power by spinning up an online course, offering merch or starting a Patreon.
