Are We Planting Trees to Solve Climate Change?

Trees won't solve the problem entirely. We have to reduce emissions, but they do absorb carbon and bank it for us. If we plant a tree today, then it's going to be at least 10 years before that tree starts to work to start banking carbon. And unless we get a tree through to establishment, so we talk about tree planting targets,. The best thing we can do actually is preserve what we've already got. So preservation of woodland is more important than planting new trees.
