The Difference Between Pure Science and Applied Science

Just having a PhD in a field of science doesn't make one an expert in all fields. Applied science focuses on taking the results of pure science and developing technologies. While someone might have a PhD in physics that doesn't necessarily make that person an expert in climatology. If they haven't been deeply involved in the academic dialogue related to climate change, they may not understand the methods those working in the fields use.
