The Teleological Explanation of the Cosmos
Plato's theory is based on observations of his day. They don't have exactly the experimental method. Aristotle didn't either, but it's certainly still paying attention to nature. He sure does get detailed about the biology in a way that I think would be impossible if he hadn't inherited this.
