The Lies That Shocked Me
The railroad stories in our family played such a large part in how we identified ourselves as Chinese Americans, that I really thought I knew everything there was to know about the railroad by the time I hit grade school. The official historical record was riddled with fiction and fabrication and half truths and in some cases outright lies. And I think honestly that was probably one of the things that made me a writer was realizing that there were these stories that were not told and that needed to be told.
