CHAPTER

The Evolution of Chimpanzees

Three point six million years ago, we were austrolopithesines. We're ape like looking creatures, not much taller than a champanzee. But thefootprints show us very clearly, as it were, walking upright with a bipedal gat just like a human would. If a chimpanzee walks on two legs, its knees are bent, its hips are bent, it can't straighten out and it's very ungainly to get around. The first thing that i suspect happened was this upright gait. And so his throwing, which then allowed us to kill at a distance, is simply the most important military invention in the history of warfare.
