A short story is basically a scene or two, and the main thing about you when you're witing a short toris. You have to accomplish a whole lot in very little space. If you could take that skill set of being able to tell a lot of story and very fast, you can then transfer that into a novel. A novel really is just a whole bunch of short stories connected.
