The Transformation of the Ottoman Empire
Mikmed II's, Mikmed the Conquerors, took of Constantinople in 1453. He and his successor Murad II spent their entire reigns trying to centralize and expand the Ottoman state. To help us understand how all this went down, we're going to need a guide. Ali was actually born a Christian in a small village in the foothills of the Balkans near Adirana around 1400. We'll call him Ali, at least that was the name he was given in his teenage years.
