In the first week of june, the bolsheviks planned to turn out forty, 60 thousand armed demonstrators as a show of force. The leadership of the congress of soviets had been kept totally in the dark and they scrambled to head off what they believed was a dangerously de stabilizing manifestation. This put lenin and the central committee of the bolshevik on the horns of a dilemma, which they resolved by backing down. They were suspected of aiming at an armed insurrection to seize power, in something like a cude ta. But stallin fumed about the decision to back down, thinking it proved the party's lack of resolve.
