Aristotle says we cannot disentangle the question of what we humans are from that of what we ought to be. For him, there is no way to describe the way things are without using concepts like purpose and function. In other words, aristotle thinks that saying what a giraffe is involves saying something about what a good giraffe would be like. And the same goes for humans. Finally, then we have a fix on the happy life. It will be a life of reason. Be that will be the kind of life that allows humans to achieve their distinctive excellence.
