In the 1830s, abolitionists and they were a radical group. Abolitionists wanted to end slavery immediately. So what they began to do was send petitions to Congress. The First Amendment gives us all a right to petition. And this is the most important contribution, I believe, that John Quincy Adams gave the history of the US.
