Motivation by Love by Values Versus Motivation by Fear
Gene Seymour: There is a fundamental difference between motivating by values versus by threats. All of the basic emotions are created fundamentally by values that you have formed in your subconscious, he says. The concrete value, your spouse, has the possibility to generate all the positive and negative emotions if it's threatened or endangered. If something happens that puts it into jeopardy, or it might be in jeopardy, you'll feel fear. And so when you succeed, you will feel joy. When you fail, you're going to feel sad or maybe despair if it looks like you aren't going to get it back. He believes we should seek escape from pain rather than happiness.
