The Black Death
The worst plague years occurred over 700 years ago, but the widely accepted figure for European mortality was 33% of the population. Some cities lost 60% of their population and entire villages throughout rural Europe were wiped off the map completely. The black death killed almost everything on legs, infecting dogs, cats, birds, camels, rabbits, lions, and almost 200 more species with an infection that's almost but not quite as bad as Ebola.
