Hugh's Triumph in the Middle Ages
Hugh was the first of capacian dynasty whose descendants ruled until revolution, then again briefly during restoration. He is often seen as a weak and ineffectual king since he only sought to rule over the franks - west francia became france. Hugh's greatest accomplishment was seizing power, holding on to it and securing the succession of his son. In nine years, hugh laid the foundation for eight centuries that lasted by Established ties with the papacy were established between him and gerbert of arelac.
