In 1920, Norman Rockwell featured one in a Saturday evening post illustration for the cover. One of the big appeals for Ouija boards early on is that they were popular because the board setup had the requirement that the people involved would touch the planchette and touch each other's knees. All of this was creating a situation where there was an acceptable way for young couples to have casual physical contact.
