The Importance of Translation in Poetry

I think translation is so important and yet not always done. We should translate more and we don't always read in translation. For example, there's a poem that the New Yorker published in 1996 called Some Like Poetry. The last of the three stanzas is poetry but what sort of thing is poetry? More than one shaky answer has been given to this question. I do not know and do not clutch on to it as to a saving banister.
