What Is the Point of Parental Publicanism?
Luke's version of tit for tat is that you do to others what you would have them do to you. And whether or not they actually do it is beside the point, because God will take care of your situation. Even sinners can do that in their old life and even Matthew himself could since he was a publican. But man requires a new life in him to be able to accomplish it. He then adds if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? For sinners also lend to sinners to receive as much back.
