The goddess Aphrodite was considered to be the goddess who kept an eye on sex workers and was their patron. There's this incredible discovery from athens of a silver medallion showing aphrodite riding a goat. And i'm sure that, as always in the kind of sad story of humans, something which might start off with a kind of e er purity and parity, that somebody ends up exploiting it somewhere down the line.
