New York Governor, Kathy Hochl

New York governor Kathy Hochl picks Hector LaSalle as new chief judge of the Court of Appeals. A state senate committee had to approve LaSalle's nomination before it moved to a vote by the full New York state senate. It voted 10 to 9 against LaSalle. The nine yes votes were from Republicans. The 10 no votes were from Democrats. So what did the governor, a Democrat, do when the members of her own party were emphatically telling her she had screwed up? Nominate somebody else. She says she may go to court, to sue the senate, to bypass the senate committee and force a vote on her judge.
