The Critics of Family Matters
Family Matters was an instant hit, but shifted into icon status when a new character was introduced midway through the first season. Critics also took issue with the show's cliched portrayal of Harriet Winslow, played by Joe Marie Payton. Despite the criticism, Family Matters aired on ABC for eight seasons, until 1997, and then it moved to CBS, where it ran for one final season. In March 2022, most of the cast got together at 90s Con, and they said they would love the chance to revive the beloved sitcom. But under one condition, Joe Marie Payton, who played Mom Harriet, said she would only do it if the character Judy Winslow was written back into the show
