Hammedan is still very much a living city. Much of the archaeology there is mainly parthian and sisanian. But certainly, when we're trying to look for ancient ecpatana, we just don't see it. There are two magnificent, old persian inscriptions carved into the rock in hammedan. To day,. they calle gang name, which means the books of the treasures. In times before you could read the inscriptions, it was thought that these were directions to gold and silver hoards. What they actually say is: I built this place somewhere because of darius the great. And then xerxes repeats his father's words down below
