The Conscience Concept in Psychoanalysis
In his book a drew on mark twain's story of huckleberry finn. He found that what the nsa was doing was just unconscionable. So he decided to go with his conscience, and defied his superior. It's a beautiful example of conflict between conscience and and super ego. In psychoanalysis we've been really hampered in all kinds of ways by the absence of the conscience concept. I gave a talk about this at the new york psychoanalytic and some people sa scoffed, how are you going to measure that in an interview?
