If you're starting to get anxious, holding your breath a bit could stimulate a hiccup. If you eat baby carrots and you hiccup because you ate a bit faster than the next time, you could be priming yourself to hiccup without even realizing it. There's also a ton we really don't know here. Like everyone hiccups in their own particular way.
