Introduction
This year marks the 240th anniversary of the Franco-American Alliance. The French didn't join the American war effort or even formally recognized the new United States until February 1778. Many historians consider the Battle of Saratoga to be the turning point in the American War for Independence, but National Book Award winner Nathaniel Filbrich disagrees. He sees two different turning points in the war, and both of those turning points came after that fame victory.
