The Origins of Ninja Training in Iga and Koga
The tradition of the ninja-like practices in Iga and Koga actually dates back to well before the Sengoku period. The Ninja were essentially the polar opposite of Japan's other most famous warrior, the samurai. In early times, when samurai's fought, they proudly displayed themselves on the battlefield where they would loudly proclaim their name before challenging their opponent to single combat. This, as you might imagine, was not the way of the ninja.
