The Economic Value of Enslaved People

An enslaved person was someone who could perform labor, as you said. They also had talents and skills that they could bring to bear on the enslaved people's trading networks. So if we look at this history of slavery through the perspective of a Dutch and Slaver, we'd see a lot of economic value in each enslaved person. Did the knowledge that enslaved people represented so much financial value for their families impact the way that Dutch and Slavers treated their enslaved people?
