How Easy Was It as a Writer to Live With With Truth?

Throughout the book we've got this strong sense of danger, of jeopardy. Adam and emma coping with this daily fear of what's going to happen to their daughters. How easy was it as a writer for you to maintain that level of high tension without ever falling flat? I think about writing novels sometimes like conducting music, which is silly, because i don't conduct music, and ih've no idea what it's like. But it's keeping something going in the background and bringing it up slowly or down slowly while the melody's carried somewhere else.
