The Importance of Character in Judaism
The practice and study of character refinement and spiritual discipline in Judaism is called Musar. The most common approach to Musar is to focus on specific character traits known as Medot, which literally means measurements. One great example comes from the ancient book of Jewish wisdom called Pirkei Avot. It contains a list of 48 qualities by which one must acquire Torah.
