"This is, i think, a nod to what's known as the long defeat. The elves in middle earth that didn't go back to the undying lands after the war ended are basically fighting a war," he says. "It was crafted in a way that when i watched it the first time, i was like, wait, hang on, what? But this definitely feels like they are leaning towards a plot line where the dwarfs mind the mithril."
