The proclamation of 17 63 was an important early break in the relationship between the british crown and leading american colon slike washington. In late 17 74, some enslaved black people approached virginia's governor, lord dunmore, to help his side against the rebels. The inslave people were attentive enough to what was going on that they spotted opportunity for themselves. And so we know that was one of the things that drove them into the revolution. They now want out of the empire, and that becomes their reason for wanting to declare independence.
In the American Revolution, the men who revolted were among the wealthiest and most comfortable people in the colonies. What kind of revolution was it, anyway? Was it about a desire to establish democracy—or something else?
