Why Is the Democratic Party So Overwhelmingly Opposed to Mask Mandates?

So why are elected officials so resistant to mask mandates? I don't have the definitive answer, but i would think about a couple of different things. One is they look at mask mandates and they see it as fuelling culture worse. Another is there's actually a long history of business opposition to mask wearing. And we've seen that over and over after 9/11 - workers told not to wear masks because it would scare the public.
