The BTG Concept in the Ukraine War
The idea of a BTG is to have this self-contained, as Francis said, battalion-sized unit which has everything it needs to do its own thing. And it's a great idea, right, if you can make it work. But there have been problems with it from the get-go. Russia had real trouble pulling it together when they sent in a tank unit from the Far East and Buryatia into Donbas. It turned out they didn't have enough professionals available. You've got complicated tangles of chain of command between the regular military and your DNR, LNR, levied militias from Eastern Ukraine and Wagner.
