There is quite a very strong emerging association between individuals who are testing positive for monkeypox and having a diagnosis or an existing diagnosis of HIV. In the US, 38% of people who have been diagnosed with monkeypox also happen to be people with HIV. We're still trying to sort of understand what is sort of driving this very strong association. Is it just a reflection of similar risk exposures that are making these two infections track quite closely together? Or is there something about living with HIV and being immunocompromised that may predispose these individuals to having a higher chance of acquiring monkeypox if they are exposed to the virus?
