Maxwell's demon paradox involves this simple model of a gas in a box. Seylard and landor showed how thermodynamic energy and information are very closely bound up. There are two types of energy that can be transferred in between objects, heat and work. Heat is the energy of random motion, of particles jiggling around. Work is organized in a sense, so you can directly use it to push a rock up a hill or power a factory.
