I saw a colleague on a call bring some of that humanizing personal connection just by asking where someone's from. I could tell, actually, that they really didn't care what music I played. They just wanted to add that personal question in. And so I think if you're going to treat people as humans, actually treat them like humans and actually be genuinely interested in them.
