The Biggest Issue of Climate Change Is Carbon Offsetting
If we don't internalize an economic externality, then there's no reason to act for the companies that are creating the biggest issue here of climate change. If companies are volunteering to offset, they are paying more. So they have an incentive to pollute less. And this usually happens through like trade organizations,. You'll see like the airline industry has created a sort of industry wide framework that requires the airlines who participate to offset. It could come from a bunch of different angles. But either way, it needs to be internalized where it becomes harder to pollute than not.
