Is Base Load a Good Idea?
There are people who argue that the notion of base load is flawed. I've become more suspicious of simple, strong, or obviously we need base load for when the sun doesn't shine and the wind doesn't blow. There's nothing virtuous about base load. Demand is not base load. We need supply and demand to match at all periods of time. And its storage is expensive. Part of the reason it keeps back technologies like hydrogen from being used in net zero power stations.
