The swingers club was not greeted with the same enthusiasm and amusement as the continental baths had been. Opera star eleanor steeber, who had once performed at the baths, now recoiled within her lavish, decorated apartment. The site of the continental baths and plato's retreat was turned into a parking garage. In 19 80, paul goldberger wrote of the ansoniaqte: "the inside has gon from beausart's grandeur to a state of near dereliction" And i think its 19 72 landmark designation sums it up nicely.
