The book kicks off with this canicatalist event that brings all these socital issues into the forefront for the characters. So it's very much a metaphor for real world events. The story kind of hinges on a werewolf that is found on the street and is in werewolf form, and i is shot because, you know, he rs threatening. And then he turns back into,you know, a black man. You know, if there is a way that monsters would become visible in the world, it would be through a vulnerable monster who isn't able to hide themselves.
