The Vineland Concerto by Shostakovich

Shostakovich wrote the Vineland Concerto between 1947 and 1948. He was already unpopular with authorities because of his 9th symphony, a piece that was supposed to glorify the Soviet achievements of World War II. After Stalin's death there was somewhat of a thaw in these policies, and so it became safe for Shostakovich to finally allow the Vineland concerto to be performed. This recording is done by David Oistrak, who knew Shostakovic personally; he dedicated the Concerto to him.
