Pike v. Bruce Church, Inc.
Pike v. Bruce Church is a 1970 Supreme Court case that involved an Arizona man and his cantaloupes. The state of Arizona wanted to help him, but he was shipping them from California. So the court ruled in favor of Californian pig farmers who were not allowed to use gestational crates on their pigs. John Avlon: There's no textual grounding for Pike balancing; it's just one paragraph out of whole opinion. He says if you're trying to regulate interstate commerce, this test doesn't apply.
