Can We Use Naltrexone to Treat Alcohol Use Disorder?
The first line of treatment for moderate to severe AUD include naltrexone and a campersate. These meds are reasonable options, but you do need to push the dose for alcohol use disorder. The third option is psilocybin which reduces cognitive fogginess when used at high doses. Since recording our last episode, we've also added some avant guard therapies such as baclofen that have been shown to be effective in reducing heavy drinking.
