The Ankle Block and the Nerve Coverage

The ankle block is ideal for any surgery below the level of the ankle joint. A great benefit would be that you do not have to perform a peripheral nerve block such as the popliteal block unless it is absolutely necessary. In addition another advantage for utilizing the ankle block specifically is that the patient can be mobilized immediately after surgery while also having the benefit of the analgesia for about 18 to 24 hours. As we've mentioned attached to this podcast is a chart of the anatomy of nerve coverage which I highly recommend you commit to memory for testing purposes.
