The Importance of Empathy in Gomash

I had forgotten that Gomash was there so early. I just love how quickly she's getting us into it. She tells us right at the beginning that he's almost wanting to undo the damage that's been done, unlike so many other detectives who are hurt and broken. They really keep themselves in an emotional remove from the victim because they need to kind of protect themselves. Gomash, we learn right at the start doesn't do that. He's seeing Jane not as a victim, but he's seeing who she is. The way she smells is reminding him of his grandmother who we know later raised him.
