The Effects of Different Bacteria on the Preterm Birth
In the gut, if you have a very diverse microbiome with many communities and high diversity, that's usually a very healthy sign. In the vaginal microbiome, it's the inverse. There are special types of bacteria called lactobacillus crispatus and in-us. They're protective in the sense of, if they are there, that's a good sign for the pregnancy. That's how it should be. It shows that there's the right chemical combination, which is occurring, which seems to be protective of the pregnancy. With the Gates Foundation, we're trying to find out whether we could actually, whether you can make an intervention or rectify this situation.
