The Solubility of Salts
Research has shown that the solubility of certain salts, as for example, in table salt, varies comparatively little with the temperature. For other substances such as potassium chloride there is required at 0 degrees, 29.2 parts. At 20 degrees, 34.7. At 40 degrees, 40.2. At 60 degrees, 45.7. And so on. These curves clearly show by their inclination the degree of rapidity of increase in solubility with theTemperature. Curves of solubility give the means of estimating the amount of salt separated by the cooling to a known extent of a solution saturated at a given temperature.
